Contract extension reinforces Veolia's commitment to sustainable water management and celebrates 25 years of safety excellence

MONCTON, NEW BRUNSWICK (January 15, 2025) - Veolia Canada has been awarded a five-year contract extension to continue operating and maintaining the City of Moncton's drinking water treatment plant. The extension builds upon Veolia's long-standing partnership with the city, which began in 1999.
The Moncton facility serves a population of over 150,000 residents in three local communities, providing safe and reliable drinking water. The contract renewal not only ensures the continued delivery of high-quality water services but will also include a number of initiatives such as increasing onsite solar energy generation to offset energy use at the plant, energy efficiency monitoring as well as biodiversity projects in and around the operation. Combining water and energy services is consistent with Veolia’s GreenUp strategy for innovations in depollution, decarbonization and regenerating resources.
The contract award also marks a significant milestone reinforcing Veolia’s dedication to workplace safety. The Veolia Canada team in Moncton is celebrating an impressive 25 years without a lost-time incident, which means no employees have had to take time off from work due to an on-the-job injury. Since 1999, the team has successfully operated and maintained the Moncton facility with only one recorded workplace injury and no lost-time incidents.
“We could not be more pleased to have this opportunity to continue with our strong partnership with the City of Moncton to deliver safe, reliable, essential water services to the people of this community,” said Veolia Canada CEO and Country Director Denis Chesseron. “As part of Veolia’s global GreenUp strategy for growth and sustainability, we look forward to building on our relationship with the City of Moncton for years to come as we work together to meet the needs of the future.”
“We would like to congratulate Veolia on their remarkable safety record,” said Nicole Taylor, Director, Water Supply and Treatment for the City of Moncton. “The work carried out at the water treatment plant is absolutely vital for our community and we are pleased to be working with a partner who takes employee safety seriously.”
The safety record at the Moncton facility exemplifies Veolia's commitment to workplace safety and operational excellence. Former Plant Manager Richard Bennett emphasized, "We want everyone who works here to be able to get home safe and sound to their families and friends at the end of the day. Safety always comes first."
The contract extension and safety milestone reinforce Veolia's dedication to providing sustainable water management solutions while prioritizing the well-being of its employees and the communities it serves.
"Veolia Canada is proud to continue our partnership with the City of Moncton, delivering essential water services while maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency," added Chesseron. "This contract extension aligns with our mission of ecological transformation and our commitment to creating a more sustainable future for Canadian communities."
