The challenge
In Québec, million litres of water are used for industrial purposes everyday. When released into the environment without treatment, this wastewater, composed of high levels of organic and inorganic pollutants, can severely affect human health and the environment. To protect and preserve Québec's communities and natural ecosystems, all contaminated water must undergo appropriate treatment.
Veolia's solution
Operating since 1996 and located a few minutes from Veolia's Hazardous Waste Transfer Center in Chambly, our Chambly Wastewater Treatment Facility offers pumping, transportation, cleaning and treatment solutions to industries and businesses.
Innovative solutions
- State-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility with the capacity to treat up to 20 million liters of contaminated water annually
- Two types of contaminated water are accepted at Chambly. This wastewater undergoes successive treatments that combine the latest mechanical, physical and chemical water treatment methods:
- Contaminated wastewater: wash water, wastewater from oil/water separators, car wash wastewater, excavation wastewater, meltwater and groundwater
- Oily waters A03 classified as hazardous residual material: metalworking Fluids, engine oil spills, hydraulic oils, transformer oils and hydrocarbons (diesel and gasoline)
- Materials removed from the treatment process are sent to the most appropriate and sustainable treatment center (landfill, recycling or waste-to-energy site)
- A final analysis of all treated water is conducted by a team of highly specialized chemists before being released into the City’s sewer system
