Our Veolia Philadelphia team volunteered time to support The Veteran’s Group in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (National Day of Service) on January 18, 2016.
Now in its 21st year, the Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service hosted on January 18th is currently the largest MLK Day event in the country. As part of this day of service, a group of Veolia staff at our Philadelphia district office volunteered their time to put together bags of toiletries for homeless and needy veterans in support of The Veteran’s Group. Founded in 2007, this non-profit organization is committed to providing shelter, food and assistance to homeless men who have served our country.
The Veolia team prepared 115 one-gallon zip lock bags containing toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, razors, combs, shampoo, winter hats, socks, chap stick and granola bars – all of which were donated by Veolia employees. The Veteran’s Group, which is in close proximity to Veolia’s district operations, will receive the bags in support of local veterans in the Philadelphia area.
The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community." It’s the only Federal holiday observed as a national day of service.
